Questions & Answers

Can I return the dash mount?

Yes. The mount is a stock item, not personalised, so the standard 14-day right of withdrawal applies in full. Send it back unused and we refund it.

Does it really need no drilling?

It uses the screw hole that is already in your dash. Nothing new is cut, nothing is glued, and it comes off without leaving a mark.

Will it fit my Defender?

Our parts are primarily designed around classic Defender interiors, including 200Tdi, 300Tdi and early Td5-era vehicles.

That said, these trucks have often been rebuilt or fitted with parts from different generations, so the dashboard in front of you matters more than the year written on the registration document.

If you are unsure, send us a clear photo of your dashboard from the driver’s seat. We would much rather check it before you order than have you buy the wrong part.

Do I need to drill or cut my dashboard?

In most cases, no — and that is very much the point.

Wherever possible, Flintlock parts are designed around existing factory mounting points. We do not like making permanent changes to old Defenders unless there is a very good reason to do so.

The idea is simple: install the part, enjoy it, and still have the option to return the vehicle to standard later.

How to install?

We try to keep it as straightforward as possible.

Our products are designed around the vehicle rather than asking you to modify the vehicle around the product. If you are comfortable removing a few dashboard fixings and doing basic work on your Defender, the mechanical side of the installation should feel familiar.

“All installation guides can be found on product page.”

Electrical accessories and switches should, of course, be wired correctly.

What screen do you use?

This is probably the question we get asked most often.

The screen you will often see in our photos and videos is the Ottocast OttoScreen AI.

View the screen we use →

You do not have to use that particular screen, though.

Can I use a different screen, phone or tablet?

Yes.

The Flintlock screen mount uses a standard 17 mm ball, which gives you a wide choice of compatible phone, tablet and display holders.

We deliberately chose a common mounting standard rather than locking the system to one particular screen. Your setup can therefore change without having to replace the part mounted to the Defender.

Will the screen mount vibrate?

The mount has been designed specifically with the Defender environment in mind and has been vibration tested.

A Defender will never behave like a modern luxury car — and we would not want it to — but the mount is designed to provide a solid base for your display while driving.

What is the screen mount made from?

The main mount is manufactured from PA12, chosen for its combination of strength, durability and suitability for this type of application.

More importantly, the geometry of the mount has been designed around the existing dashboard mounting point rather than simply attaching something to the surface of the dash.

Can I customise my switch panel?

Yes. That is one of the main reasons we make them the way we do.

Your panel can be configured with 1 to 7 switches, depending on what you actually need in your Defender.

Rather than filling the dashboard with switches you will never use, we can build the panel around your vehicle and your accessories.

Can I choose what is engraved above the switches?

Yes.

We can engrave function icons according to your setup, so your panel can be made around the equipment fitted to your Defender.

Lights, heated seats, auxiliary equipment and other functions can be represented with suitable engraved symbols.

If you have something less conventional in mind, ask us.

What switch and panel colours are available?

Switches are available in:

Brass / Gold · Silver · Black

The switch panel itself is also available in:

Brass / Gold · Silver · Black

This allows you to keep everything understated or mix finishes to suit the character of your interior.

Can I wire accessories directly through the switches?

The switches should be wired through relays.

Their current rating is 10A at 12V DC, but for automotive accessories we recommend using the switches to control properly sized relays rather than carrying accessory loads directly through the dashboard switch.

If you are not comfortable with automotive wiring, have the electrical side installed by someone who is.

Can you make something slightly different for my Defender?

Possibly.

Flintlock started because I was making solutions for my own Defender, so unusual requests are not exactly unfamiliar territory.

If you have a particular switch layout, function or setup in mind, send us a message. If it makes sense and we can make it properly, we are always interested.
